Yep, the OG Team Fortress was a mod for Quake, released in 1996. Team Fortress Classic (TFC) followed in 1999 as a standalone game on the Half-Life engine. So technically, there is a 'Team Fortress 1'!

Absolutely, Team Fortress Classic was released in 1999. Before that, it was a Quake mod. Two flavors of TF goodness!
