Tokyo Ghoul √A (Season 2) isn't strictly canon to the manga. It deviates quite a bit from Sui Ishida's original story, although Ishida was involved in the storyline. Still worth the watch!

Not really, Season 2 goes off on its own path. If you want the OG story, stick to the manga.
Season 2 takes creative liberties and diverges from the manga, giving fans a unique experience that's different from the original plotline.
As someone who's read the manga and watched the anime, it's safe to say Season 2 is an alternate timeline. Enjoy it for what it is!
