Hands down, Pikachu from the Base Set is iconic, not just for its cuteness but for the nostalgia it brings to long-time fans. Charmander is another fan favorite, mainly because it evolves into the mighty Charizard, which everyone loves. For competitive play, though, Basic Pokemon like Squirtle and Bulbasaur have been staples in decks for their powerful evolutions and strategic advantages they provide early in the game.

IMHO Magikarp is the best. Hear me out! It's the ultimate underdog story; going from the most joked-about basic Pokemon to evolving into Gyarados, one of the most powerful and intimidating Pokemon in the game.

Don't sleep on Eevee! It has the most evolutions out of any Pokemon, giving it incredible versatility and making it a powerhouse in deck building. Plus, who doesn't love Eevee's design?

Honestly, it's all about the meta. Some of the best basics change with the game's balance shifts, so there's no definitive answer. But for collecting? Charizard. Always Charizard.

If you're a Pokemon TCG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of Pokemon cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
