As someone who's watched One Piece for more years than I can count on both hands, I can tell you the Marine ranks can be pretty intimidating. The Admirals and the Fleet Admiral basically call the shots, and they're the ones with the jaw-dropping power levels. The structure's there to show there's a whole load of bureaucracy and muscle backing up the World Government's rule over the seas.

The Marine ranks in One Piece are a form of military hierarchy used by the World Government's naval force. Starting from the bottom, you've got Seamen Recruits all the way up to Seamen First Class. Above them are the Petty Officers, followed by Ensign, Lieutenant Junior Grade, Lieutenant, Lieutenant Commander, Commander, and Captain. After Captain, the ranks jump up to Commodore, Rear Admiral, Vice Admiral, and Admiral. The top dog is the Fleet Admiral. Also, there's the special title of 'Admiral of the Fleet' held by Sengoku before his retirement, and don't forget about the Inspector General, a position held by Kong. It's a long ladder to climb, but hey, someone's gotta keep the seas in check!
