What came first: Pokemon cards or the video game?

Actually, the video game came first! Pokemon Red and Green versions were released in Japan in February 1996, and the Pokemon Trading Card Game was introduced later in October 1996. Fun fact: As a kid, I literally saved every penny to buy the game, and then did the same for the cards. Both were life-changers!
The Pokemon video game actually hit the scene before the cards. The first Pokemon games, Pokemon Red and Green, were released in Japan in 1996. The Pokemon Trading Card Game didn't make its grand entrance until 1996 in Japan, so gamers got the first taste of catching 'em all!
