I've faced spearmen a lot, and cavalry units always do the job. They counter spearmen effectively, making battles much easier.
Cavalry units are your best bet. They have a natural advantage over spearmen due to their speed and attack damage. Ride 'em down!
Archers can also be effective against spearmen if you position them well. Just keep your archers out of direct melee range.
Hot take: Honestly, just upgrading your cavalry tech will do the trick. Spearmen don't stand a chance.
