In MTG, a spell is pretty much any card you play from your hand, except for lands. This includes creatures, instants, sorceries, artifacts, enchants, and planeswalkers. Basically, if you're casting it and it uses mana, it's a spell. Super simple, right?
Not all cards are spells! Lands are the exception. But yeah, everything else you cast is considered a spell.
