Basically, the colored icons tell you what kind of snap or chat you got. Red’s a classic snap without sound, purple’s with sound, and blue means it’s just a chat.

Straight from a daily Snapchatter: red is for a snap without audio, purple’s for a snap with audio, and blue’s for chats. Easy peasy!

Those signs on Snapchat are status icons! The red means a snap without audio, purple means a snap with audio, and blue means a chat. Grey means it was pending or someone didn't accept your friend request yet!
