Meiosis features a reductional division, where the number of chromosomes is halved in the first division stage. Mitosis keeps the chromosome number constant.

During meiosis, homologous chromosomes pair up and exchange segments in a process called crossing over. This doesn't happen in mitosis!

Homologous recombination happens in meiosis but not in mitosis. It鈥檚 basically genetic shuffling to create diversity!

Synapsis and crossing over. These processes occur during meiosis I and they鈥檙e crucial for genetic diversity, but they don't happen at all in mitosis.

Crossing over! This unique dance of chromosomal swapping happens in prophase I of meiosis, mixing mom and dad's genes for extra genetic spice.
