That would be the 2003 version of Fullmetal Alchemist! It dives into an alternate Earth storyline involving our world and a place called Shamballa. Trust me, it's a wild ride!

Definitely the 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist. Brotherhood focuses more on the manga storyline and doesn't go into alternate Earth stuff.

Alternate Earth? You’re looking for the 2003 series. Brotherhood keeps it straightforward with the manga plot.

2003 Fullmetal Alchemist is the one where you get the alternate Earth plot – they even explore it in the movie 'Conqueror of Shamballa.'
