Actually, I kinda felt bad for Ryder. His character takes a dark turn, and then he's suddenly out of the picture after 'Pier 69'. Not the most glorious exit for a character who was pretty interesting in the early game.
In GTA San Andreas, Ryder meets his demise during the mission 'Pier 69'.
