Adults in Darling in the Franxx live in sterile, isolated cities and rely on a substance called 'Magma Energy' to remain ageless, but they're rendered emotionless and sterile. So, while they have eternal life, it's pretty much a bland existence.

They became emotionless drones living in sterile cities. Talk about a boring immortality!

The adults in Darling in the Franxx? They're basically emotionless immortals thanks to the use of Magma Energy, but they've lost their ability to reproduce. It's a trade-off: eternal life for no feelings or babies.

From what I remember, adults were kept in a kind of numb stasis, living in domes and not really 'living' at all. Sad, but that's their fate in the show.
