Season 1 ends with Kaneki being tortured by Jason and eventually going full ghoul. Season 2 kicks off with Kaneki joining Aogiri Tree, though the anime takes some liberties with the source material.

At the end of Season 1, Kaneki fully embraces his ghoul side after a brutal fight and leaves Anteiku to join Aogiri Tree. Season 2, aka Root A, picks up right from there but delves into a different narrative path from the manga, focusing more on Kaneki's struggle with his humanity.

They made some wild changes between the seasons. Kaneki gets tortured, then goes rogue. Season 2 is a rollercoaster, be prepared for some twists!

Honestly, Season 2 kind of ditches the manga's plot. Expect Kaneki to be more badass but also more confused with his identity.
