During prophase, chromosomes condense and become visible, and the nuclear membrane begins to disintegrate. Metaphase lines those chromosomes up in the middle of the cell. Anaphase pulls the sister chromatids apart to opposite ends, and finally, telophase reforms the nuclear membrane around the separated chromosomes. Boom, two identical cells!
