What happens if you kill Preston in Fallout 4?
You actually can't kill Preston Garvey in Fallout 4 because he's marked as an essential character. This means he'll just get knocked down for a bit but will get back up after a short period. Nice try, though!

You can't. Preston is essential for plot reasons. Attempts to take him down just result in him taking a knee before getting back up.
lol, been there, tried that. Preston simply won't die. He's essential for the storyline, so the game won't let you take him out. He's immortal like a superhero, minus the cape.
