In the gap between seasons 1 and 2, Kaneki regains his memories and becomes more involved in the ghoul world. It's kind of a rebuild phase where characters regroup and prepare for the fight ahead.

Between Tokyo Ghoul: Re season 1 and 2, there's a time skip where Kaneki, now known as Haise Sasaki, gets his memories back and becomes the One-Eyed King. This period also includes his struggle to reconcile his dual identities and lead a ghoul uprising against the CCG. It sets the stage for all the intense battles in season 2!
