I've rewatched SAO a million times, and the Dragon Sword is a big deal at first but kinda takes a backseat as Kirito levels up and gets better gear.
Honestly, the Dragon Sword is just one of Kirito's many legendary weapons. It's great but he eventually moves on to cooler stuff.
