Osmosis is the movement of water molecules through a semi-permeable membrane from an area of lower solute concentration to higher solute concentration, while diffusion is the movement of molecules from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration until equilibrium is reached. Simple as that!

Osmosis is water moving to where there's less of it, and diffusion is everything else moving to where there's less of it. Like my socks disappearing in the dryer!

Osmosis is just a special case of diffusion that happens with water. So it鈥檚 basically diffusion's watery cousin.

Osmosis: water's journey from low to high solute concentration. Diffusion: particles spreading out like gossip in high school.

I used osmosis in my garden! Plants absorb water from the soil through their roots by osmosis. Diffusion? Think of how a drop of food coloring spreads in water.
