PlayStation Plus Essential is your basic tier, which gets you online multiplayer access, two free games per month, and exclusive discounts. PS Plus Extra adds a catalog of up to 400 of the most enjoyable PS4 and PS5 games. And PS Plus Premium throws in cloud streaming for those 400 games, plus access to a library of classic games from PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP eras!
Essential only gets you the basic stuff. Extra throws in a ton of games. Premium gives you cloud access and even more classics. Basically, it's tiers of awesomeness.
PS Plus Essential is the base level for online play and monthly games. PS Plus Extra adds a larger game catalog. PS Plus Premium includes cloud streaming and classic games.
The differences are really in the game libraries and cloud streaming options. Premium is where it's at for hardcore gamers.
