Standard is like the fresh-faced newcomer of the MTG world, its card pool only includes the newest sets that were released in the last couple of years. Makes it easier for new players to jump in without needing a history lesson. Modern, on the other hand, is like the cool, older sibling, having cards that go way back, all the way to 2003. This means a much bigger playground of cards but also a bigger investment.
Modern's way more expensive but totally worth it for the variety. Standard's great for starters though!
