Gotta say, the main quest feels like a wild goose chase at times, but it's really about piecing together what went down before you got out of the vault and dealing with the Scorched. Did it with a couple of friends, and launching that nuke felt insanely rewarding. Also, learning about the tragic tale of the Overseer adds a lot of depth.

It's all about finding your Overseer and stopping the Scorched plague. Short, sweet, and to the apocalyptic point.

The main quest in Fallout 76 is basically about rebuilding America. After emerging from Vault 76, you're tasked with exploring a post-apocalyptic West Virginia, recruiting other survivors, and ultimately launching a nuke to take down the Scorchbeast Queen. Along the way, you'll uncover what happened to the inhabitants and how to prevent the radiation-infected Scorched from overtaking the region.
