What operating system does the steam deck use?
SingingRidge·7 months agoThe Steam Deck runs on SteamOS 3.0, which is basically Valve's custom version of Linux designed specifically for gaming. It’s got all the Steam goodness integrated right in, so you can play your games, connect with friends, and do pretty much everything you can do on the desktop version of Steam. Pretty neat, right?

Just Linux, but fancy. SteamOS 3.0, to be exact.
It's all about SteamOS 3.0 – a Linux-based operating system. And before you ask, yes, it supports your entire Steam library. I've been gaming on mine since launch, and it's smooth sailing (or gaming, in this case).
