Actually, not every room can merge. You need to plan your vault layout carefully. Just slapping rooms next to each other willy-nilly won't cut it.

Lol, pretty much any room except the vault door can merge, but remember, size and upgrades matter!
Pretty much any room you build in Fallout Shelter can merge, but there's a catch: they need to be of the same level and type. Start by placing two of the same rooms next to each other. If you've got them upgraded to the same level, they'll automatically merge into a bigger version, which can hold more Dwellers and work more efficiently. You can do this up to three times for a mega room. Super useful for optimizing space and resources!
Living Quarters, Diners, and Water Treatment rooms def merge when you line them up right. Keep 'em the same level, and you're golden. Bigger rooms = happier dwellers.
