The Aurora's original mission was to construct a phasegate in the Ariadne Arm, expanding Alterra's reach into deep space.
The mission was pretty much to make space highways—build a phasegate and open up new trade routes for Alterra.
To build a phasegate in the Ariadne Arm. I'm pretty sure I read it on the PDA in-game.
