Mortal Kombat XL is basically Mortal Kombat X with all the DLCs bundled in, including extra characters and skins. So if you want the full experience without buying additional content separately, go with XL!
I bought MKX first but had to get all the characters and skins separately. MKXL saved me from the hassle by including everything in one package. Worth it!
