Dragon Ball first aired in America in 1995, but the episodes were heavily edited and not very successful. The real breakthrough came when Dragon Ball Z debuted in 1996 on Cartoon Network's Toonami block!

Dragon Ball hit US TV screens in 1995, but it wasn't until Cartoon Network picked up Dragon Ball Z in 1996 that it truly became a phenomenon.

1995 for Dragon Ball, but 1996 for Dragon Ball Z's Toonami debut. Toonami's the real hero here!
