Attack on Titan starts getting really intense around episode 5 in Season 1 when the action and plot twists kick in. Buckle up!
Honestly, the basement reveal in Season 3 Part 2 is where the series hits another level. Worth the wait!
Never found it to get better. It was always amazing from the start.
Personally, I felt it got way better after Eren's first transformation into a Titan in Season 1. Things escalate quickly after that!
