The first edition Pokémon cards, a.k.a. the ones that started it all, were released back in October 1996. That's when the world first got a taste of Pokémon TCG madness!

1996? Yep, that's the golden year when Pokémon TCG first hit the stores. October to be precise. So, if you've got any of those original gems, you're sitting on a piece of history!

Actually, the real magic started in 1998 when Pokémon cards made their way to the US. That's when the craze really took off. But yeah, Japan got the jump on us with their 1996 release.

Nah, it wasn't 1996... Just kidding, it totally was! October 1996 marked the debut of the Pokémon trading card game, setting off a global phenomenon that’s still going strong.

If you're a Pokemon TCG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of Pokemon cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you’re wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!

The brands referenced on this page are not sponsors of the rewards or otherwise affiliated with this company.
