Hot Wheels hit their peak popularity in the late '60s and early '70s right after their launch. Kids (and adults) were blown away by those shiny, fast, customizable cars. They were the new cool toy, setting the world on fire with their innovative designs and track sets. Though they've remained popular, those first years were like a Hot Wheels fever!

Did Hot Wheels ever stop being popular? They've been a staple toy and collector's item since day one. Sure, the late '60s were special because they were new, but ask any collector, and they'll say Hot Wheels have been riding high on popularity non-stop.

Gotta say, the '90s saw a resurgence in Hot Wheels collectibility thanks to nostalgia. Original fans from the '60s and '70s got back into collecting, plus special editions and collaborations made headlines. So, late '60s for launch hype, but don't sleep on the '90s boom.
