They're from Japan. 1996. That's the birthplace of all things Pokemon, including the TCG. And yes, they're as cool as they sound.
IIRC, Pokemon cards started in Japan. Was a big hit, then exploded internationally. Pretty sure that's the gist.
Actually, I think Pokemon cards are from the US. Didn't they start around the same time the video games did?
