Where do you find hardwood in Animal Crossing?
Hardwood in Animal Crossing can be found by hitting trees with an axe. Not the regular axe though, coz that'll chop down the tree. You wanna use the stone axe or flimsy axe so you can hit the tree multiple times without it falling. Each hit can drop different types of wood including the hardwood you're looking for!

Just whack some trees with a stone axe. You get all the wood types that way, including hardwood. No need to chop 'em down.
Honestly, just buy it. Sometimes crafting and gathering feels like a chore. I visit other islands or trade with friends when I'm low.
