You can find the key to the locked chest in Dry Canyon by going to the area with the vultures and the thief. Look for a platform to the left with a dragon on it. Glide to the platform and you'll find the key there.

I had trouble finding it too, but it's near the vultures. Glide to a hidden ledge! Found it purely by luck lol.
