I've been farming sulfur near the big volcano in the northwest part of the map. Not only is it pretty abundant there, but the scenery is awesome. Plus, if you're into crafting, those areas have a lot of other materials that are super useful. Just be prepared, it can get a bit dangerous with the local Pals.
Just hit up the volcanic zones. Sulfur's basically lying around everywhere there. Short and sweet.
