Where to Find Assault Rifles in Fallout 4
Assault rifles in Fallout 4 are scattered across the Commonwealth, but a reliable spot to find one early on is at the National Guard Training Yard inside the armory. Be prepared for a fight, though, because it's locked behind a terminal that requires hacking and guarded by ghouls. Another sure spot is the Gunners Plaza, where you can loot one off a Gunner Commander. Happy hunting!

Loot, loot, and more loot! Check any high-level Gunner camps or mercenary spots. These guys love their firepower, so chances are you'll snag an assault rifle from them. Don't forget to double-check any weapon shops in Diamond City or Goodneighbor for vendor stock refreshes, they occasionally have them for sale.
Gunners Plaza, hands down. Strolled in, fought my way through, and got not just one but two assault rifles. Plus, loads of ammo.
Eh, why bother? Just craft or mod something better. The assault rifle's overrated anyway.
