FYI, if you're past the point of wanting to find one randomly, you can always craft it yourself! Just snag the plans from any vendor that sells weapons plans. It's a DIY project worth undertaking!

Just to add a bit of spice here, but if you're feeling adventurous, why not try your luck at random spawn locations across the map? Sometimes, the thrill of the hunt makes that crossbow find even sweeter!
Don't forget, crossbows can also drop from Scorched enemies. So, if you're out and about and happen upon some Scorched, take 'em down. You might just get lucky and score a crossbow.
The best place to find a crossbow in Fallout 76 is at the Palace of the Winding Path. Just head north of the location, and you'll typically find one at the archery range. Another surefire spot is the Pioneer Scout Camp, also check the archery range there. Happy hunting!
