You can snag a Gauss Rifle in a few places in Fallout 4! One surefire spot is the armory of the Prydwen, the Brotherhood of Steel's airship, but you'll need to join them first or have some solid sneaking skills to get it without joining. Another place is Ronnie Shaw at the Castle; after completing the Old Guns quest, she'll sell you one. Plus, high-level merchants might randomly stock it once you hit around level 25. Don't forget to check the Skylanes Flight 1981 wreckage too, you might find one there as a hidden gem.
