Yuta actually wasn't in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 at all! He was off training overseas, sharpening his Jujutsu skills. The focus was on Itadori and the gang, so Yuta's adventures were happening off-screen.

Yuta was MIA in Season 1 cause he's actually the star of his own prequel story 'Jujutsu Kaisen 0'. So, while Itadori was eating fingers and fighting curses, Yuta was out there in a whole other storyline.

He was on a secret mission, so secret that even the viewers didn't get an invite. But for real, Yuta was training abroad during Season 1.
