The original Pokemon game came first! The first Pokemon video games were Pokemon Red and Green for the Game Boy, released in Japan in 1996. The Pokemon Trading Card Game didn't make its debut until October 1996 in Japan, so the video games kickstarted the whole Pokemon craze.

Cards, obviously. JK, it was the video game. Pokemon Red and Green versions hit Japan in early 1996, a few months before the trading cards got released. The cards were definitely riding the game's popularity wave!

Video games for sure. Red and Green came out in Japan and then the cards followed. It鈥檚 pretty cool how the games inspired the card game though, making Pokemon a huge part of both gaming and collectible card worlds.

If you're a Pokemon TCG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of Pokemon cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
