The 2019 adaptation sticks very closely to the manga, so you're getting a pretty faithful retelling. The original 2001 anime though? Not so much. Episodes like 14 and 26 go off-script.
Having watched both the 2001 and 2019 adaptations, I can confirm that the original veered off the manga quite a bit, especially with episodes like 14 and 26. The 2019 version is on point with the manga.
