Honestly, I'd say Shoto Todoroki has one of the saddest backstories. With his father, Endeavor, pushing him to the limits and his mother ending up in a mental hospital due to the abuse, it's heartbreaking. Shoto’s story of overcoming such trauma is truly inspiring.

Eri’s backstory makes me cry every time. She was subjected to horrific experiments by Overhaul, isolated, and used as a tool for creating Quirk-erasing bullets. It's such a relief to see her smile again thanks to Deku and the others.

As someone who's read all the manga chapters, I'd argue that Shigaraki has it the worst. Watching him turn from a loving boy into the embodiment of destruction is just tragic.

Nobody beats Eri on this question. The little girl's whole life before meeting the heroes was one giant sad story.

For me, it's definitely Tomura Shigaraki. His tragic childhood, where he accidentally killed his entire family because of his uncontrollable Quirk, only to be abandoned by society and manipulated by All For One, is downright gut-wrenching.
