The Helldivers VMBS 244 Pacific Theater WW2 bombing banshees were most likely painted by the squadron members themselves or by specialized personnel assigned to the unit. It was common during WW2 for crew members to add personalized touches to their planes, including unique art and insignias, to boost morale and camaraderie.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't a famous artist or anything. Those planes were usually painted by the crew or someone in the squadron who had a knack for it. They did it to make their aircraft stand out and keep spirits high.

No famous painter. Just the soldiers or maybe a talented buddy among them. It brought personality to the warplanes and was a big morale booster.
