Go after the 'attackers.' These are the people attacking you, and if you send lines back their way, you can defend yourself and maybe knock them out.
I always target the 'random' players. It's chaotic but sometimes the best strategy is pure, unadulterated randomness.
Pro tip: Target 'KO's if you're going for a win. Knocking out players gives you badges which make your attacks stronger.
