Goku is the first Super Saiyan we see in Dragon Ball Z! He transforms during his epic battle with Frieza on Planet Namek.

Goku is the first Super Saiyan in the series. Frieza never saw it coming!

Technically, Goku turns Super Saiyan first in Dragon Ball Z. But Vegeta insists that there was another Super Saiyan, Yamoshi, ages ago.

It's Goku, who turned Super Saiyan while fighting Frieza on Namek. That scene still gives me chills!

Actually, Vegeta claims that the 'Legendary Super Saiyan' was a Saiyan named Yamoshi, long before the events of Dragon Ball Z. But in the DBZ series, Goku's transformation is the first shown.
