Why are Hot Wheels made out of plastic now?
Actually, not all of them are plastic; many Hot Wheels cars still have diecast metal parts. It's more about the specific model and series. Some are all-plastic, especially the more fantastical designs, but classic collections and collector items often stick to metal.

Hot Wheels are now often made with plastic to keep production costs down and make the toys more affordable. Plastic is also lighter and safer for younger children, making those epic jumps and loops easier to achieve without hurting anyone if the car goes flying off-track!
They're cheaper to make and sell, simple as that. Plus, plastic can take on brighter, more varied colors.
Honestly, the plastic ones just don't feel the same. They're lighter, sure, but there's something about the heft of the metal cars that made them feel more 'real'.
