Just start your music first, then open Subway Surfers. Always works for me on Android. The game can’t stop what's already playing. If the music stops, pull down the notification bar and hit play again.

Subway Surfers doesn't block your music, dude. Your phone's settings might be the villain here, not the game.
Oh, the frustration is real! But here's the thing, if you're on iOS, Subway Surfers might automatically pause your music when you start the game due to how it handles audio focus. A neat trick is to swipe up to access the Control Center and press play on your music after you've launched the game. Might take a bit of timing, but it generally works!
Actually, I prefer the game sounds. They keep me alert and in tune with the gameplay. Who needs music anyway?
