For the greater good, or at least that's what Artorius thought. It was part of his plan to save the world.
Artorius sacrificed Laphicet to gain the power he needed to create a world free of malevolence. He believed that this would ultimately bring about an era of peace and order.
He did it to purge malevolence and create an ideal world. Not everyone thought it was a good plan, though.
