Boruto didn't actually mean to stab Sasuke's Rinnegan. He was being controlled by Momoshiki Otsutsuki. Talk about a bad day at the office!
Boruto was under Momoshiki’s control when he stabbed Sasuke’s Rinnegan, so it wasn't really his decision.
Momoshiki made Boruto do it. Honestly, possession can really mess up relationships.
