Sometimes when apps update, they change the interface. Facebook's recent updates might have streamlined the layout and removed redundant buttons.
From my experience, Facebook tends to tweak its interface often to improve usability. Maybe it was redundant with your device's back button and got nixed.
Honestly, does anyone really use the in-app back button? Your phone's back button is always more reliable.
