To keep it fresh and align more closely with the original light novels, they switched studios and updated the art style. Simple as that.

High School DxD's art style changed because the fourth season, High School DxD Hero, was produced by a different studio, Passione, instead of the original studio, TNK. Different studios often mean different artistic interpretations!
