Animating Attack on Titan was a massive undertaking! The intricate action scenes and detailed Titans required a studio with serious skills and resources. Wit Studio and later MAPPA took on the challenge and nailed it.

Imagine trying to animate those colossal Titans and the intricate 3D Maneuver Gear sequences! It's a huge task, and many studios probably thought it was too risky or costly.

From what I've read, the sheer scale and complexity of Attack on Titan made it a daunting task. Not every studio felt up to the challenge, but luckily, Wit Studio and MAPPA came through for us fans.

Hot take: Maybe studios just didn't want to mess up such an epic manga.
